Please join us for Shavuot on June 1st at the Theater for the New City, for a night that will bring together musicians, poets, dancers, artists and thinkers from different faiths and backgrounds to “rise up” as one. Rise Up will be a night to celebrate our diversity as we raise the spirit of our collective oneness.

The Kumah Festival was created to be part of that process. We who see our faith world as a creative endeavor of compassion and care are in a war over the definition of our respective traditions. Like the many Israelis and Palestinians who feel as though their religious traditions have been kidnapped by extremists, many New Yorkers look at America and feel the same. This year’s Kumah Festival provides an opportunity for us to assert the vision of brotherhood and sisterhood at the heart of our faith traditions, through the connective power of music.

“Let the ancestral rhythms and the blazing horns stir us to action and love”
