Come Celebrate The New Shul’s 25th Anniversary
At the turn of the last century, Holly Gewandter and Ellen Gould gathered together a group of artists and intellectuals and set out to create a new kind of Jewish community in Greenwich Village. What they envisioned was an idea born of a question: “How might we reframe our shared ancient traditions in ways that are both resonant and relevant to us as Jews in this moment?”
In the years that followed, that idea took shape. The New Shul became a vibrant, innovative, and essential part of our lives. We reinvented rituals, re-envisioned rites of passage, reinvigorated holiday celebrations—all amazing events that connected us to our roots in new and meaningful ways.
On Friday, April 4, 2025 we will come together—old members, new members, past members, future members—to celebrate The New Shul’s Twenty-Five Year Anniversary with a Founders Shabbat Jubilee honoring Holly and Ellen for their extraordinary vision, generosity, and leadership.
There will be music, a Shabbat service, craft cocktails and delicious bites, more music, and a special program reflecting on the past 25 years— and dreaming about the next 25!
We hope you will join us!
