Hasidic (Texts) Through a Modern Lens

Hasidic (Texts) Through a Modern Lens: A Unique Judaism for Every Generations - In Person and On Zoom

Led by

Rabbi Abby Stein

About

In every generation, God enlightens the eyes of that generation to interpret the Torah according to the needs of that generation” writes the grandson of the Baal Shem Tov (founder of Hasidic Judaism). While it might not always look like it in some contemporary Hasidic communities, this Havrutah class will bring together Hasidic texts that teach us to find our own path within Judaism, a path that works for us.

Whether through a focus on happiness above all, direct Devekut (connection with the divine), or the joy of personal Torah study, we will explore those texts together. Given the hard times we are in, we will also dive into the belief in the power of every person, how every human being is the divine image, and the value of every life in Jewish sources. From parts of the Torah, Talmud, and Kabbalah, to the main focus on Hasidic texts and onto modern texts, this class will be accessible to everyone, whether this is your first Jewish text class, or if you spent your whole life in Yeshiva!
