Andalusian Lights - An Arab Jewish Hanukkah Concert

  • First Presbyterian Church (12 west 12 St., NYC) (map)

When we come together to eat, laugh and make music, we transcend whatever darkness is around us.  Join us for a special Hanukkah-Shabbat celebration to spread the light, and bask in the warmth of our shared humanity.

Long time collaborators Rachid Hallihal (Fez) and Daphna Mor (Tel Aviv) will be joined by their friend Zafer Tawil (Jerusalem) for an evening of Andalusian and North African Music. For 20 years Rachid Halihal, directed a large musical ensemble in Agadir, Morocco. In 2006, joined by Daphna Mor and other musicians, he formed the ensemble Layli El Andalus (Andalusian Nights) in New York. Frequent collaborators, Rachid, Daphna and Zafer perform together on prestigious stages as well as in private events and celebrations, appropriate to the spirit of this music. Their rarely performed repertoire highlights the beauty and deep connection of Judeo Arab shared history.

Come celebrate Hanukkah and Shabbat as we light candles, light up our spirits and share a light supper including Homemade Latkes provided with love by Murray's Sturgeon.

If you can't make it in person, the event will be live streamed on our Instagram. Follow @thenewshulnyc to tune in.
